In addition to HTML, websites are built using the CSS design language. While HTML is responsible for the structure and interaction with the user and the database or the server, the design and appearance of a website is done in CSS. In addition to CSS, PHP, Python, WordPress or JavaScript may also be used. Websites usually consist of structured texts that can be supplemented with multimedia content such as images and videos. Every website can be found under at least one URL – this must be entered into the browser so that it can display the website. A website builder is a very easy way to create a website without special programming knowledge. It offers ready-made templates that can be individually adapted and designed. The changes to the website are visually traceable in the user interface and published with just a few clicks. A provider takes care of installing software or maintaining the website construction kit. Compared to a content management system, the flexibility is somewhat limited. HTML pages or PHP scripts offer a high degree of flexibility. However, special programming skills are requirement for this.
Different types of Websites
eCommerce website
These websites only want one thing, to sell. They have products listed for sale, most of the times in a variety of different categories. Once a customer purchases a product, it is then shipped to them via mail.
Lead generation website
There are a lot of leads generated via websites these days. This is especially true when products are not easy to sell and can only be sold via upsells, or personal communication. The website is used to provide information about the offer and, above all, to collect the contact details of new potential customers.
Media and magazine websites
A magazine or media website could, for example, be a well-run blog. The point here is simply to convey information. An example of this would be a classic news page, but also the fashion blog next door. Overall, blogs and magazines are visited by a large number of people and have a lot more content than most other websites. The primary goal is not to inform visitors about the company, but to present them with relevant and new content.
Support and service websites
These websites are intended to make support as comfortable and user-friendly as possible. A service or support website is used for resources and to quickly answer frequently asked questions.
Community websites
These websites are a community and are based on user-generated content. The content of this website is therefore published by the users of the website. Examples include internet forums and social media platforms in the broadest sense.
Corporate websites
Websites that belong to companies and are of a representative nature. Corporate websites contain information about the organization itself and the products and services offered along with different ways to contact the organization.
